Graduate & Post graduate students of Islamic Studies from University of Central Punjab, Lahore visited LUMS library on December 17, 2011. Dr. Muhammad Ramzan, Director Library apprised them with library resources pertaining to their study. The delegates delighted to see LUMS library resources in the field of Islam and comparative religions.
The Halqa-e-Danish has become a regular feature of Gurmani Center for Languages & Literature and the LUMS Library. It is being organized on Friday every week at KIC wing in the Library. Four sessions have been organized since November 25, 2011. The session held on November 25, 2011 was conducted by Mr. Iftikhar Arif, a well known poet. He shared his knowledge about history and literature of Mira Bai. In the session on December 02, 2011, Lalla Arifa and Habba Khatun were the topic of discussion. On December, 09, 2011, Ms. Iffat Saeed talked about Women writers in the Western tradition before the twentieth century. On December 16, 2011, the topic of discussion was “Contemporary women writers”. These sessions were very interesting and well participated.
A delegation from Kashmir Institute of Management Officers, Muzaffarabad visited LUMS library on December 01, 2011. The Institute conducts a Mid-Career Management Courses for officers. Inland study tour is an integral component of the course where officers are exposed to various organizations working in public and private sector. Mr. Muhammad Asif Munir, Senior Librarian apprised the delegates with library services, systems and resources. They showed keen interest in library’s external membership services.
The second edition of Bunyad, a journal of Urdu literature, was launched by the Gurmani Centre for Languages and Literature at the LUMS Library on November 30, 2011. LUMS vice chancellor, Dr. Adil Najam said that the journal’s aim is to create an interest in Urdu not just among LUMS students but young people across Pakistan. The event was attended by writers including Fehmida Riaz, Intezar Hussain, Sarmad Sehbai and Dr Tabassum Kashmiri.
The participants of a training course at REDC visited the LUMS library on November 29, 2011. Dr. Muhammad Ramzan, Director Library informed them about library services and resources. They showed keen interest in library’s electronic resources. Library provided the participants with an access to its electronic resources for a two-weeks time period.
